Gold Coast Campervan Hire was started in 2021 by Jodie Cockerill with her first campervan “Spirit” a beautiful 2009 Ford Transit.

Jodie bought “Spirit” 2017 as a 12-seater bus which she converted to a fully contained campervan that could be off the grid with a 300w solar system and a 75-litre water tank as she was planning a solo lap of Australia which she did in 2018.

“Spirit” was designed to accommodate a small family with a fold out bed and anchor points for kids’ car seat so that Jodie could take her grandkids camping when she got back from her road trip.

Her lap of Australia was everything she had hoped for and more.  She was a little worried at the start, taking on this adventure on her own and wasn’t sure if she had the confidence and courage to do it. She made sure “Spirit” was well fitted out to make the trip manageable for a single woman.

Jodie left her home at Tweed Heads and heading for Rockhampton, she cried most of the way to Gympie thinking she was crazy to doing this, she would miss her two daughters and 3 grandkids too much and she would be lonely and not have anyone with her if something went wrong. Late the afternoon she pulled into the caravan park in Rockhampton and before she had even turned off the engine the people camped up beside her offered for her to come over for a drinking after she set up.

Suddenly, her fears were gone, and her adventure began.

After returning from her trip, Jodie has had so many wonderful adventures in “Spirit” with the most memorial being the camping weekends with her grandkids as they love getting away campervanning.

In 2021 Jodie decided to start renting “Spirit” out so that others could have some camping adventures and not have the expense of owing and maintaining a campervan.  In October 2021 the next campervan “Mystery” a 2014 Hyundai iLoad will be added to the fleet with plans for more vans to come.
